The Joseph Ravoahangy Andrianavalona University Hospital (CHU JRA) has acquired a new scanner, bringing significant improvements to its medical imaging department. After years of inactivity, the hospital announced on its Facebook page that the scanning service is now fully operational.
According to a source within the Ministry of Public Health, this state-of-the-art equipment was donated by the State to facilitate patient care. Medical professionals have welcomed the return of this service, noting that it eliminates the risky process of transferring patients to other facilities for imaging. An anesthesiologist-resuscitator emphasized that patients can now be moved within the hospital via wheelchair or bed, significantly improving safety.
The scanner is essential for detecting anomalies not visible through X-rays or ultrasounds, such as infections, hemorrhages, tumors, cysts, and fractures. Furthermore, the hospital highlights the financial accessibility of the service, which is more affordable than private alternatives and saves patients additional transportation costs. The hospital administration also noted that this will improve emergency response capabilities during mass casualty incidents.
The previous scanner had been out of service for years, forcing patients—including those with Covid-19 during the pandemic—to seek imaging services elsewhere due to frequent equipment breakdowns caused by high demand.
