A 13-year-old girl with a mental disability was the victim of sexual abuse in Imerimanjaka, in the commune of Ambohijanaka, Atsimondrano district, last week. The suspect, a 47-year-old man living in the neighborhood, is suspected of being the perpetrator of the violence.
He was immediately arrested and taken to the police station, along with the young victim. The police were informed of the incident following a complaint filed by the child’s father in Imerimanjaka. The arrest of the suspect, whose name had been provided to investigators, followed quickly after the necessary information was gathered.
Regarding sexual violence, the National Police notes that victims or their relatives are now more willing to file complaints. Law enforcement intervenes immediately as soon as they are informed of a case. Five people have already been arrested in various rape cases that have been reported since the end of last week.
In addition to the Ambohijanaka case, a man was arrested for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl in Namontana. In Tolagnaro, a man is suspected of raping a 6-year-old girl. In Sambava and Amparafaravola, two other suspects, a young man and a man respectively, are also involved in rape cases.
The National Police once again calls on the population to report and denounce any case of violence committed against children and vulnerable people immediately. Perpetrators of sexual violence are often people from the victim’s circle, sometimes unsuspected. Vigilance remains essential. Prompt reporting of incidents helps protect victims and allows for the enforcement of the law against suspects.
