Twelve personal bests were updated, including four national records and eight improved performances, during the first day of the Madagascar 25m pool championships held yesterday at the Saint-Gabriel High School pool in Mahajanga.
AS Saint-Michel swimmer Marie Ange Praxas Andrianaho made a strong start with a double victory, setting a new national record and a new best performance in the 16-17 age category for the 1,500m freestyle. She surpassed the previous record held by Mbolatiana Ramanisa of CNUT, clocking 19:45.76 compared to the 21:01.03 set in 2006.
The Managing club also secured a hat-trick, including two in the 4x50m freestyle relay. The men’s team, consisting of Manandaina, Emadison, Mamy Haja, and Baritiana, set a new record of 1:38.97, breaking the previous record held by the Saint-Michel team (1:41.21). The new women’s record holders are Holy Antsa, Haingoniala, Liantsoa, and Miranda (1:56.25), surpassing the 1998 national team record. Additionally, Baritiana, Mana Andraina, Mamihaja, and Aina Hoarana set a new record in the 4x100m medley relay (4:04.90).
Eight other performances were improved throughout the day, including double victories by Tianaina Rakotomalala in the 14-15 age group. Other notable performances came from Aintsoa Keren Ramiarisoa, Amboaraniavo Rakotomamonjy, Tendry Rakotobe, Stefy Neyah Rambinintsoa, and Loane Ratefinjanahary. The national short-course championship concludes this Saturday.
