Madagascan fashion was in the spotlight in Kolwezi. A recognized figure in contemporary design, Eric Raisina made his mark at the second edition of the Kolwezi Fashion Week (KZIFW), held from July 1 to 5, 2026, in the Lualaba province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. As the guest of honor for this edition themed ‘Heritage in Light,’ the designer unveiled an exclusive collection inspired by his homeland.
Through his creations, Eric Raisina highlighted the vibrant colors and rich cultural heritage of Madagascar. Staying true to his work with silk and textile materials, he presented silhouettes that blend modernity, technical skill, and traditional craftsmanship. His fluid and textured pieces particularly captured the attention of critics and specialized media, who highlighted them as one of the highlights of this edition.
Founded by Marie Natacha Masuka, the Kolwezi Fashion Week aims to establish itself as a major fashion event in Central Africa. Alongside Eric Raisina, several designers from across Africa participated in this edition, including Taibo Bacar from Mozambique, Danayi Madondo from Zimbabwe, and Bouboucar Midaye from Mali.
The event was not limited to runway shows. The program also included a ‘Fashion Village’ bringing together local artisans, concerts, and debates focused on the economic impact of fashion in Africa. This community dimension allowed for the integration of creation, craftsmanship, and reflection on the development of the sector.
With this participation, Eric Raisina carried the colors of Malagasy design to an event gathering several key players in African fashion, while showcasing the textile and cultural identity of Madagascar.
