Three hundred and seventy motorcycles were intercepted and checked during a vast operation conducted by the National Police on the night of October 27 in Antananarivo. The checks were carried out both day and night to reduce traffic accidents and insecurity.
During this operation, numerous infractions were noted. Fifty-two two-wheeler drivers were caught carrying three or more people on a single motorcycle. Furthermore, two hundred and fifty-six people were not wearing helmets, a particularly dangerous practice.
In addition, fifty drivers did not possess a two-wheeler driver’s license, and ten were intercepted riding their motorcycles after consuming alcohol. In total, one hundred and one motorcycles were impounded, and sanctions were applied immediately. The other drivers were subject to identity checks and received a firm warning. They were informed that in the event of a repeat offense, they would be sanctioned directly without further warning.
According to a police source, control operations of this type will continue day and night throughout the capital. The goal is to encourage drivers to respect the Highway Code and to preserve their lives as well as those of other road users.
