DIPLOMACY – Jean-Marc Grosgurin officially takes office as French Ambassador to Madagascar

Jean-Marc Grosgurin has officially become the French Ambassador to Madagascar. The diplomat presented his credentials to the Malagasy Head of State this Wednesday morning at the Iavoloha Palace. Having arrived in Madagascar several weeks ago, the new French ambassador intends to support the ‘Refondation’ (Refoundation) process and address the priorities expressed by the Malagasy population. ‘There is a lot of work to be done, but the goal is to support the Refoundation and assist the Malagasy people with their needs and priorities,’ he stated upon leaving the Palace.

Jean-Marc Grosgurin also highlighted Madagascar’s assets, particularly its geographical and strategic positioning in the Indian Ocean. ‘Madagascar has its strengths, especially its geographical and strategic position in the Indian Ocean,’ he noted. He also mentioned the country’s human capital and resources, believing that Madagascar ‘is worth fighting for.’

The presentation of credentials officially marks the beginning of his mandate. It now allows him to meet with all stakeholders in the country, including authorities, civil society, and representatives from the political, economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian sectors. ‘I can now meet with authorities, civil society, and all political, economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian actors,’ he added.

Jean-Marc Grosgurin succeeds Arnaud Guillois as head of the French Embassy in Madagascar. A career diplomat and state administrator, he has held several positions abroad and within the French administration. Notably, he served as French Ambassador to Yemen and Guinea, as well as Consul General in Dakar. He has also held management positions in the central administration and within ministerial cabinets.
