Access to necessary study materials remains difficult for some students due to a lack of sufficient financial resources. To address this challenge, a team of young participants in the first edition of the Itovia Hackathon conceived E-Takalo, a platform that gives a second life to items users no longer need. The principle is simple: offer goods that can be retrieved, exchanged, or potentially purchased by others. The initiative aims to facilitate access to certain items while promoting their reuse.
The idea captivated the competition’s jury. E-Takalo won first prize among the seven teams that participated in the Hackathon, which was held from August 31 to September 3. Over four days, 20 young people from several regions worked on designing digital solutions to address concrete problems. For the winning team, the challenge is now to scale the project. “The business model must make the project profitable,” explains the team representative. The question of funding and viability is thus the next step for E-Takalo.
Beyond the 750,000 ariary prize, this experience offers the team the opportunity to continue developing a solution born from a daily need. It also illustrates the ability of young people to transform the difficulties encountered in their student lives into opportunities to create accessible and innovative digital solutions.
