EDUCATION – Ministry harmonizes school curricula

The Ministry of National Education is responding to the demands of private institutions. Following requests made last Friday regarding the ambiguity surrounding school curricula, the ministry has announced a closed-door meeting to harmonize viewpoints and reach a common position. Pending an agreement, private institutions may continue to apply the current school program (PS).

This consultation aims to allow the various parties to compare their perspectives and reach a consensus on the curricula to be followed. The demands from private institutions primarily focused on the lack of clarity regarding their implementation. The announced meeting represents a step toward a better understanding of the adopted procedures and the search for a common stance.

For the Primary Elementary Studies Certificate (CEPE), the ministry plans to collaborate with private institutions in the development of exam subjects. Two sets of subjects will be prepared: one following the official teaching program (PE) and the other following the private school program (PS). This option will be offered to institutions applying the PS, ensuring the measures account for the curricula followed by students in those schools.

Regarding the Baccalaureate, no changes have been announced. The organization of this exam will remain in accordance with the latest provisions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESUPRES). The procedures applied thus far remain in effect.

Pedagogically, classes continue normally without interruption. The ministry’s response provides clarification on how to proceed while awaiting the outcome of the discussions. The closed-door meeting is expected to bridge positions and lead to a common decision on school curricula. Until then, private institutions may continue to apply the PS, while provisions related to the Baccalaureate remain unchanged.
