One employee of La Gastronomie Pizza died and four of his colleagues were seriously injured following a shooting involving police officers on Thursday night in Namontana. The National Police and the Gendarmerie are conducting separate investigations to establish the circumstances of the incident.
Gunshots rang out in Namontana on Thursday night. The shooting resulted in several casualties among the employees of La Gastronomie Pizza. One of them succumbed to his injuries, and four others were seriously wounded.
According to a source, these men were working the night shift. “After dropping off their supervisor in Namontana, the seven men were returning to their vehicle parked on the side of the road when they encountered the police. That is when the shots were fired,” the source reported.
The National Police provided a different version of events. Two distress calls, one from the victim and another from a private individual, alerted law enforcement in the Namontana and Andrefan’i Mananjara sectors, mobilizing the special UIR unit. On-site, the police claim they were confronted by a group, some of whom were armed. They allegedly ordered them to stop, but were not obeyed. “A confusion followed, resulting in injuries and, unfortunately, one death, despite his transfer to the hospital,” the National Police stated.
The victim is Jean Christophe Fanomezantsoa Nomenjanahary, an employee of La Gastronomie Pizza in Soanierana. The company expressed its deep sadness following the sudden loss of its colleague.
The Ministry of Public Security assures that it shows no favoritism when a police officer commits an offense. An investigation is underway to establish the facts, coupled with an internal investigation into the officers involved. For the sake of impartiality, the National Gendarmerie is conducting its own independent investigation.
