The Malagasy tourism sector showed a slight increase in the first half of 2026. However, this growth remains moderate. It occurs in an international context marked by several challenges, compounded by constraints related to air transport. Despite these difficulties, tourist arrivals are holding steady, demonstrating continued interest in Madagascar as a destination.
For the full year of 2026, authorities are targeting 400,000 foreign visitors. The pace recorded during the first six months will need to accelerate in the second half to reach this goal. The Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts intends to continue its efforts with industry professionals and various partners to enhance the destination’s appeal.
Promoting Madagascar, consolidating partnerships, and continuing ongoing efforts in the sector are expected to support arrivals in the coming months. The challenge lies in maintaining the momentum observed in the first half and attracting more foreign visitors.

With 151,532 visitors recorded at the halfway point, Madagascar is still 248,468 arrivals away from the annual target of 400,000 tourists. The second half of the year will be decisive in measuring the sector’s ability to accelerate the pace and get closer to the target set for 2026.
