A regional title for Madagascar. Malagasy dancer B.Boy 3J emerged victorious in the ‘Breaking’ category of the Indian Ocean Urban Dance Championship, held as part of the 4th edition of the Bouzé Festival in Mauritius. The final of this competition took place on Sunday, August 16, following four days of activities dedicated to urban cultures.
The championship, organized by Wake Up Session, brought together dancers from several countries and territories across the Indian Ocean and Africa. B.Boy 3J secured the title in this iconic hip-hop discipline, which became an Olympic sport at the Paris 2024 Games.
The Bouzé Festival also featured a second category, ‘Choose Your Style,’ open to various dance styles including sega, latino, dancehall, afro, and hip-hop. The Malagasy delegation also distinguished itself in this category: Princia Valérie reached the Top 8, while M.Y. finished in fourth place.
Held from August 13 to 16, this 4th edition of the Bouzé Festival combined competitions, masterclasses, professional exchanges, showcases, and public performances. The event aims to foster cultural exchange, training, and collaboration among urban dance practitioners in the region.
The festival, supported by Wake Up Entertainment Ltd and Wake Up Session, establishes Mauritius as a regional hub for urban cultures. The 2024 edition brought together representatives from several countries and territories in the Indian Ocean and Africa, including Madagascar, South Africa, Djibouti, Zimbabwe, Seychelles, Comoros, Mayotte, Reunion Island, Rodrigues, and Mauritius.
