According to the statement from the Presidency of the Republic’s Refoundation, the occupant of Iavoloha “recalled” this first electoral deadline while discussing the timeline included in the document titled “Refoundation of the Republic Program.” This document, submitted to SADC on February 28, outlines the various stages of the refoundation process over a twenty-four-month period starting last January.
According to the Refoundation timeline, this first electoral deadline mentioned by Colonel Randrianirina to his South African counterpart is expected to be a referendum or a constitutional election. Subsequently, the document submitted to SADC also provides for a presidential election to follow before December 2027. However, the presidential statement does not specify the exact nature of the ballot announced by the Head of State.
