A 33-year-old veterinarian working for the Pasteur Institute of Madagascar has been found dead in Toamasina. Police are treating the case as a premeditated murder.
The Toamasina judicial police are currently investigating the death of Herinasolo Elysio Nomenjanahary, whose disappearance was reported by his family on Facebook on August 13. The victim had not been heard from since the morning of Monday, August 10, after leaving his home. His family had launched an appeal for witnesses, describing him as a calm and well-groomed man living in the Dépôt 4e neighborhood.
On the same day the search was launched, police and family members forced open his home, which was locked from the inside. Elysio Nomenjanahary’s lifeless body was found on his bed with visible injuries. Perfume had been used to mask the smell of decomposition, and a screwdriver was discovered in the room. Initial findings suggest the victim did not put up any resistance, supporting the hypothesis of a premeditated crime committed by someone close to him.
Neighbors had been alerted by a strong odor coming from the house, initially mistaking it for food waste. The discovery confirmed the body had been decomposing for several days. He was buried yesterday afternoon in Ambonidobo, Ampitambe fokontany, in the Ambohibary commune, Moramanga district.
Elysio lived alone in Toamasina but frequently traveled for his work at the Pasteur Institute, where he was responsible for collecting samples in Toamasina for analysis in Antananarivo. Police continue to investigate to identify the perpetrators and potential accomplices.
