China has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Madagascar in the defense sector, with military cooperation set to strengthen within the framework of their bilateral partnership.
Military cooperation between China and Madagascar was at the heart of celebrations held on Saturday afternoon at the Chinese Embassy in Nanisana. Officially, the reception marked the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March. Beyond the commemorative nature of the event, the partnership between the two nations dominated the discussions.
General Ely Razafitombo, Minister of the Armed Forces, along with several government members and senior officers from the army, gendarmerie, and police, attended the invitation of Chinese authorities. Their presence highlights the importance of a cooperation that has progressively strengthened over the years.
Through military training, experience sharing, and technical support, the two countries are increasing their exchanges in the defense sector. “Our two armies share a common vision in the face of contemporary security challenges,” stated General Ely Razafitombo. According to the minister, Chinese expertise is a key asset for the modernization of the Malagasy Armed Forces. “Thanks to its experience and technology, China is a partner of choice in the military field,” he emphasized.
This cooperation also translates into the enhancement of Malagasy military skills. “Hundreds of Malagasy military trainees have been trained in China in the fields of command, techniques, and logistics, contributing to the autonomous and sustainable strengthening of Madagascar’s defense capabilities,” noted Senior Captain Qiliang Zhong, Defense Attaché at the Chinese Embassy.
Beyond the military aspect, China intends to continue supporting Madagascar within a broader framework. Chinese Ambassador Ji Ping reiterated that his country remains “a fellow traveler and a true friend of Madagascar in its pursuit of independence and development.” He reaffirmed China’s willingness to support the country in its national refoundation process, particularly by supporting “the strengthening of its capacity to preserve peace and stability.”
The celebrations served as a showcase for Sino-Malagasy relations, highlighting a cooperation that both countries aim to sustain over the long term.
