Unusual incident. An armed man with a prior criminal record was arrested on Tuesday evening in Antaninandro, in the capital’s third arrondissement.
According to information gathered by the Tana-Ville Company gendarmes, the individual was posing as a police officer and was carrying an unloaded Airsoft pistol in a holster. He was wearing a vest marked “Police,” army-green clothing, and was in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Law enforcement, alerted by a citizen around 8:00 PM, arrived at the scene and proceeded with his arrest. The man, identified as 46-year-old R. A. M., a merchant residing in Ambohipo, has been placed in police custody. Investigations revealed that he had previously served a three-month prison sentence at Antanimora for drug trafficking.
An investigation has been opened and entrusted to the Betongolo Brigade. For the offense of impersonation, the suspect faces a prison sentence ranging from one month to five years, as well as a fine between 300,000 and 9,000,000 ariary, in accordance with the Penal Code.
