INNOVATION – Students from ENI Fianarantsoa secure the top two spots at the national Itovia hackathon

A clean sweep for the National School of Informatics (ENI) of Fianarantsoa. The top two spots in the first edition of the national Itovia Hackathon went to students from this institution of the University of Fianarantsoa. The E-Takalo team took first place, ahead of E-Rano, also represented by ENI Fianarantsoa students. Lady Care, from the University of Itasy, completed the podium in third place.

The competition concluded on September 3, 2026, at the premises of the Center of Excellence in Entrepreneurship (Ceentre) in Ambohidahy, following four days of work. Organized by Ceentre as part of the Itovia Program, funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) and implemented by the Economic Development Board of Madagascar (EDBM), the hackathon brought together 20 young people divided into seven teams.

Participants from five universities—Antananarivo, Fianarantsoa, Antsiranana, Toliara, and Itasy—worked on solutions aimed at addressing concrete issues. The teams then presented their proposals to a jury, which evaluated the relevance of the issues addressed, innovation, feasibility, and the potential impact of the projects.

The results highlight the performance of the ENI Fianarantsoa students, who occupied the top two steps of the podium with E-Takalo and E-Rano. The three winning teams received prizes ranging from 250,000 to 750,000 ariary, intended to support the further development of the solutions presented during the hackathon.

This first edition of the Itovia Hackathon marks the fifth hackathon organized by Ceentre and the first under the Itovia Program. The initiative aims to provide young people from different regions with a framework to develop their skills in entrepreneurship, project design, and innovation, as well as to connect them with key players in the entrepreneurial and digital ecosystem.
