The Institut français de Madagascar (IFM) is paying tribute to Arthur Rimbaud through a day combining poetry, drawing, and comics, featuring meetings and workshops open to the public.
Poetry transcends eras and reinvents itself through different perspectives. More than a century after his passing, Arthur Rimbaud continues to inspire artists. Today, starting at 10 a.m., the IFM is dedicating a day to him titled “Rimbaud: Voice, Rhythm, and Travel.” Presented by author, photographer, and cultural journalist Holy Danielle Rabehaja, this event offers a chance to rediscover the famous French poet through literature and comics.
At the center of the program is “Les Ombres d’un soir : une fugue d’Arthur Rimbaud,” a comic book by Liva Rajaobelina and Joan De Crane, which retraces the poet’s life by combining narrative and graphic creation. A public meeting will allow attendees to discover the behind-the-scenes of this work, the aesthetic choices of its authors, and their perspective on Rimbaud.
Beyond the discussions, the day will also feature artistic practice. Liva Rajaobelina will lead a drawing workshop focused on his graphic techniques, particularly black pen pointillism and blade work. Participants will be able to discover his approach and explore the possibilities of drawing. Additionally, writer and poet Na Hassi will lead a creative writing workshop. Poetry workshops and an exhibition will complete the program.
