Unprecedented. The city of Toliara hosted thirty-two artists at the indoor gymnasium last Sunday. Compelling performances have not been held in major venues like the indoor gymnasium or the Maître Kira stadium in Andaboly for a long time. As shows have recently been limited to cabarets in restaurants or, at most, the Jardin de la Mer with a maximum capacity of five hundred people, the event organized last Sunday made quite a splash.
As part of the Fête de la Musique (World Music Day), production associations “TL Production” and “Dreamnest” organized a concert featuring the singer “Meitod,” whose real name is Adrien Abdullahi. A Mayotte-born singer who specializes in melodic and poetic tracks, blending Zouk, RnB, and Afropop. Joining him was the Malagasy singer “Vezoo,” who performs in a similar genre and also resides abroad.
Local artists, including Madmax, Rijade, Kifr, ALG, Jijih, Darida, Degat Killer, Oley, Young Jeff, Backom le Rasta, Jaovavy, Joyce Mena, Dapo, Donny, Biblah, Fabiango, Delton, and Samododo, each performed three songs. The show began at 5:00 PM at the gymnasium and did not conclude until 4:00 AM, with the most highly anticipated artists taking the stage only in the early morning hours. “It’s exceptional. It’s a first-time show, but I didn’t expect such a crowd,” shared Young Jeff, one of the artists, from backstage.
“The gymnasium wasn’t packed to the rafters, but it drew a significant crowd. The ticket prices of 10,000 Ariary, 15,000 Ariary, and 50,000 Ariary for VIPs are not affordable for everyone in Toliara; otherwise, even more people would have come. The organizers just failed to mention that the show would last all night. It was quite thrilling for the parents of this young audience,” remarked a resident of the City of the Sun.
