FARATSIHO – Mother kills her baby with the alleged assistance of a ‘mpimasy’

Law enforcement authorities have identified the primary suspects in the murder of an infant. The mother is the main suspect.

Following ten days of intensive investigation by law enforcement, it has been determined that the mother of the infant, who was just over a month old, is the primary suspect in the murder in Antanetibe, in the Faratsiho district. A traditional healer, or ‘mpimasy’, and another woman are also implicated in the case. All three suspects are currently in pre-trial detention at the Antsirabe prison.

“Several people were initially suspected. However, after thorough investigations, it was established that the child’s mother was the perpetrator. She had frequent exchanges and meetings with a ‘mpimasy’ and his accomplices. A close relationship existed between the mother and the ‘mpimasy’. It was following this relationship that the idea of killing her child allegedly took root in her mind,” explained a source within the law enforcement in Antsirabe.

The incident occurred in the rural area of Faratsiho. On July 31, the mother and her infant suddenly disappeared. Local residents mobilized to search the surroundings of the village. The mother was eventually found sitting at the foot of a tree, about thirty meters from her home. The baby was wrapped in clothes but was already deceased. A medical examination revealed that the child died from violent blows inflicted with a stone.

The mother was found in a weakened state. When questioned, she claimed that she and her child had been kidnapped. She was treated at the Faratsiho hospital and later transferred to the Joseph Ravoahangy Andrianavalona University Hospital Center (CHUJRA) in Ampefiloha. Meanwhile, police and gendarmerie investigations continued in Faratsiho.

“The woman was monitored by police during her hospitalization. Her interrogation continued once her health improved. She aroused suspicion because her accounts and answers to questions kept changing. Investigators suspected she was responsible for her child’s death. The murder was allegedly committed at her home, and she fled out of fear of the consequences,” a source close to the investigation indicated.

The investigators also tracked down the ‘mpimasy’, who was subsequently implicated. Another woman, a relative of the mother, was also arrested. The case was presented to the court last Wednesday, and all three suspects are now in pre-trial detention.
