In Ambohitsorohitra, the House of Arts and Culture is still waiting to resume construction. Launched under a previous administration, the project remains unfinished several years after its inception. Its progress is estimated at around 47%, but its completion still requires significant financial resources. The National Academy of Arts and Culture (ANAC), under the supervision of the Ministry of Communication and Culture, is now seeking to mobilize partners to continue the work.
“We are trying to find partnerships to be able to continue and complete this building,” explains Chançard Rarivoson, Director General of ANAC. According to him, the site requires a significant investment. He estimates that at least 10 billion ariary would be needed to reach completion, whereas a previous figure suggested 6 billion ariary. ANAC is working with the ministry to seek funding and support to allow the project to resume.
The project had already received funding during its initial phases without reaching completion. Today, the challenge is to find the necessary resources to continue the work and give new life to this cultural infrastructure. For the DG of ANAC, its completion would represent a real asset for the sector. “The benefit we can derive from its completion concerns, in particular, arts and culture,” he emphasizes.
Beyond construction, ANAC sees this infrastructure as an opportunity to better structure the artistic and cultural sector in Madagascar. The institution wishes to move towards the regulation and accreditation of cultural and artistic establishments, similar to the operation of universities and schools.
The goal is also to bring Malagasy artistic training closer to international standards. “Our academies must not be out of step with those abroad,” summarizes Chançard Rarivoson, who hopes that those trained in Madagascar can benefit from a level comparable to that offered in foreign academies.
Intended to house ANAC and artistic training activities, the House of Arts and Culture could thus become a space dedicated to training, creation, and the development of the cultural sector. For now, its future still depends on the ability of the authorities and their partners to raise the necessary funds.
