She is one of 12,000 young girls from 108 countries selected for an international mission in India. At 16, Cassie Ralamboarivelo is preparing for an adventure that perfectly aligns with her childhood dreams: representing Madagascar in India as part of the ShakthiSat mission. This international educational program brings together, for the first time, young girls passionate about science, technology, and space.
Since she was little, Cassie has “always dreamed of galaxies, stars, and the sky,” says her father, Hery Nirina Razafindralambo. Her passion went beyond mere dreams, as she worked hard to complete over 20 modules, totaling more than 500 online scientific courses, all while balancing her regular studies and exam preparations. As a brilliant science student, she maintained a work ethic uncommon for her age.
For her, the ShakthiSat adventure began while she was a student at the Sainte Famille Mahamasina middle school. A poster caught her attention, and her physics teacher encouraged her to apply. She registered, not knowing where it would lead. Out of about fifty Malagasy candidates, only a dozen remained active through the demanding process. Five were shortlisted after an interview, and Cassie finally passed the last stage following an evaluation test and an English interview with program officials.
In India, the high school student will participate in an international scientific adventure in Delhi from August 23 to 31. The 12,000 girls representing 108 countries will have the opportunity to meet, learn, exchange ideas, and participate in a project focused on science, technology, and space. They will be united around an Indian space project aimed at the Moon. According to Miora Randrianasy, the ShakthiSat Madagascar ambassador, this is the first space project entirely carried out by girls under 18 on an international scale.
Furthermore, this selection serves as a great showcase for Malagasy female youth. The educational program, which is free and accessible to girls aged 14 to 18, aims to empower them to pursue science. Cassie Ralamboarivelo is benefiting from the program’s support in this international space experience, which is opening new doors for her, boosting her self-confidence, and reminding her that she can dream big.
