A wholesaler and her son were attacked at their home by two individuals on a motorcycle in Antsirabe. The 16-year-old teenager, shot in the head, did not survive.
A crime of rare violence shocked the city of Antsirabe on Monday evening. Two armed individuals arrived on a motorcycle and entered the courtyard of a beverage wholesaler in Tsivatrinikamo before opening fire. The merchant’s 16-year-old son, who was preparing for his BEPC exam, was fatally wounded.
The mother, who was wounded, was hospitalized; her life is not in danger. According to testimonies gathered at the scene, the young man was studying at home and had just stepped outside to feed the dog when he encountered the assailants. His mother, who was returning by car, was about to enter the gate when the shots were fired.
Residents heard the gunshots around 6:30 PM. The night before the tragedy, a power outage had plunged the property into darkness. The cables had been cut, disabling surveillance cameras and facilitating the perpetrators’ actions.
65 million Ariary
Richard Rakotofiringa, president of the Tsivatrinikamo fokontany, believes the attack seems to have been meticulously prepared. He stated that approximately 65 million Ariary were found in the house, but another basket containing an undetermined amount of money had disappeared.
According to him, the family had been targeted by criminals for a long time. During the 2025 Pentecost, money entrusted to an employee was stolen by individuals also traveling on a scooter. On June 25th, the tires of the wholesaler’s car were sabotaged with nails. On several occasions, strangers on motorcycles had also followed her.
The neighborhood chief recalled that about ten days before the attack, the mother had already been pursued by car by individuals who ultimately gave up. This time, the robbers opened fire without hesitation. The mother and son were rushed to the hospital, but the teenager passed away shortly after admission.
The National Police have opened an investigation. Emotions remain high in Antsirabe. A teenager, in the midst of preparing for his BEPC exam, lost his life in an attack that appears to have been planned in minute detail. The first elements of the investigation point toward an organized gang that had been monitoring the family’s habits for several months.
