At the 18th Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art, which opened last Friday, Joël Andrianomearisoa is among the invited artists. He presents “Tady Mitady Tadidy,” a monumental installation composed of 44 kilometers of rope collected from all corners of the world, notably in Antananarivo.
Through this work, the artist explores memory, dreams, and emotions, while questioning the possibility of building and telling a common story beyond words. The material thus becomes a medium for memories and experiences, giving a universal dimension to his work.
For Joël Andrianomearisoa, this approach reflects a desire to create a dialogue between individual and collective experiences: “Memory can also be told in other ways, without necessarily using words.”
Curated by Catherine Nichols, the 2026 edition, titled “Passing from one dream to another,” focuses on the different ways of perceiving, imagining, and representing the world.
