The accident resulted in one fatality. On Sunday morning, a 4×4 vehicle struck a cash point in Sanfily, Toliara, with full force. The vehicle, coming from the direction of the Laurent Botokeky High School, was traveling at high speed and failed to negotiate the turn leading to the Bred bank in Sanfily. A small cash point kiosk located on the sidewalk at the turn was swept away by the 4×4 as it swerved off the road.
A man who happened to be at the cash point, having just withdrawn money, was crushed by the vehicle, which only came to a stop against the wall of a house a few meters behind the kiosk. The young man succumbed to his injuries. The vendor, who was inside the kiosk, was seriously injured and remains in intensive care at the hospital.
The driver of the 4×4, avoiding the anger of the crowd, rushed to the police station. For now, it is impossible to determine whether the vehicle suffered a technical failure or if the driver was unable to control the speed.
