From the quarterfinals onwards, the tournament shifts to a knockout format. A single defeat will immediately end any title ambitions. The winners of the quarterfinals will advance to the semifinals, leading up to the final that will crown the new African champion.
To achieve a perfect run, a team must secure six consecutive victories: three in the group stage, followed by three more in the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final. However, the regulations allow teams to reach the final bracket without winning all three first-round matches, as the two best third-placed teams also qualify. A team can therefore aim for the title without having a flawless start to the competition.
Beyond the continental trophy, the stakes are high. The two finalists will qualify for the 2027 FIBA U19 World Cup, providing a global stage for the best African nations in this age category.
