The Urban Commune of Antananarivo (CUA) has officially implemented a new traffic plan in the vicinity of La City Ivandry.
New road signs have been installed along this route. A “Turn Left Only” sign has been placed at the roundabout facing the La City shopping center, making left turns mandatory for motorists at this location. Additionally, a “Stop” sign has been installed at the intersection leading toward Soamandrakizay, requiring all vehicles to come to a complete stop before proceeding. Finally, the opening of the left lane complements these measures to facilitate access and improve traffic flow in the area.
In effect since the end of last week, the CUA’s new traffic plan in the Alarobia-Ivandry area aims to optimize traffic on this axis. “The measure primarily targets the La City Ivandry roundabout, a major bottleneck where vehicle direction changes were causing significant congestion,” stated a CUA official.
The new plan notably includes closing the “S” curve located in front of the La City Ivandry roundabout, which leads to the Trade Tower, to both cars and two-wheelers; a barrier has been installed there.
Improved traffic flow
The road directly in front has been converted to a one-way street heading toward Soarano, increasing the number of lanes heading toward Ankorondrano to three. Furthermore, entry into the Ivandry commercial zone is now accessed via the Lumin’Art area.
Motorists reported improved fluidity over the weekend. “We aren’t sure if it’s the weekend effect, where traffic is traditionally lighter, but we didn’t encounter any jams during our two trips on Saturday, whether in the morning or late afternoon,” testified one road user. According to information gathered from the CUA, test phases conducted last week confirmed an improvement in traffic speed during peak hours. A source within the CUA stated that traffic officers will be deployed on this route to guide and assist motorists, noting that these measures are currently in an observation phase.
