Six matches of the Madagascar Cup Round of 16 took place yesterday, with six Pure Play Football League (PFL) teams securing their spots in the quarter-finals. Among the highlights was a rematch of the national championship semi-final, where Ajesaia reaffirmed its superiority over Disciples FC.
Two weeks after their intense encounter in the PFL, the Vakinankaratra-based club, 2024 national champions, once again prevailed with a 3-2 victory at By-Pass. Ajesaia opened the scoring through Coco in the 21st minute. Disciples FC equalized via a Tendry penalty in the 24th minute. Rica restored the lead for the Antaninkatsaka side before halftime. Although Fabrice Alphonse leveled the score at 2-2 in the 59th minute, Mota sealed the win for Ajesaia with a header in the 78th minute.
Coach Yves Rabemaromanga expressed his pride, stating, ‘We are very happy to remain unbeaten against Disciples FC. The players showed strong mental toughness and determination.’
Defending champions Elgeco Plus eased into the next round by defeating AS Valahara 2-0, thanks to a brace from Zola. Other PFL clubs including Cosfa, AS Sainte-Anne, and CFFA also secured their places in the quarter-finals. The draw for the quarter-finals is scheduled for this Monday in Andraharo.
