For its 25th anniversary, Dih’Art Madagascar is honoring Malagasy dance, fashion, and culture during the grand show “Voyage dans le Temps” (Journey Through Time) at the CCI Ivato.
Promoting Malagasy dance and expertise on stage is one of the main goals of the “Voyage dans le Temps” show, organized by Dih’Art Madagascar on August 2nd at the CCI Ivato. The event marks both the 25th anniversary of the dance school and the 30-year artistic career of its founder and artistic director, Rijamanitra Randrianarisoa.
The show aims to highlight traditional Malagasy dances, such as tsapiky and mangaliba, demonstrating that these cultural expressions can shine internationally. Malagasy fashion will also be featured through a collaboration with artisans Betina and Hardy. “We want to further promote Malagasy dance and fashion by working with artisans and showing that our culture can be presented to the world through the stage,” explains Rijamanitra Randrianarisoa.
Designed as a true journey through time, the show will trace the history of Dih’Art Madagascar and its commitment to artistic training and the development of dance in Madagascar. A grand audiovisual production, including a giant screen evoking a return to the past, will accompany the various sequences.
The program will bring together several disciplines: free dance, ballroom dance, ballet, rock, salsa, bachata, retro dance, urban dance, musical theater, and Zumba. The audience will also be able to participate in the festivities, including dance moments with the artists. Dancers from Analamanga and various regions who have collaborated with the school over its 25 years of existence will also take part in this anniversary. Children and all dancers from Dih’Art Madagascar will be present. An official opening is scheduled for 2:00 PM, featuring a prayer and entertainment.
This celebration also marks the 30-year artistic journey of Rijamanitra Randrianarisoa. A self-taught artist, he began with rock ‘n’ roll in Toamasina, in a family environment where his parents also practiced the dance. He joined a club in 1996 and performed alongside artists such as Tovo J’Hay and Do Rajohnson, while participating in several rock competitions. He later turned to competitive dance, then to salsa and bachata, following the evolution of different disciplines.
He also notes a significant evolution in the sector. “When I started, I was self-taught and the opportunities to take classes were limited. Today, disciplines have multiplied, schools and teachers are much more numerous, and many children start dancing very early. This practice contributes significantly to the development of memory and concentration, while fostering the emergence of a new generation of dancers,” he emphasizes.
Through “Voyage dans le Temps,” Dih’Art Madagascar wishes to celebrate its journey while opening a new chapter for Malagasy dance and creation. “As long as my eyes allow me to see, I will continue to contribute to the development of my country through dance,” affirms Rijamanitra Randrianarisoa.
