TENNIS – Two out of two for the Akomba at the Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group III in Gaborone

The Akomba have made a strong start to their campaign at the Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group III, currently being held in Gaborone, Botswana. The Malagasy women’s team secured another 3-0 victory against Burundi in their second group stage match.

Harena Voavindraina and Iariniaina Tsantaniony won their respective singles matches against Burundian players Marie Ceila Kezakimana and Ange Bebita Ishimwe, both with a score of 2-0 (6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0). In the doubles match, Elisoa Andriantefihasina and Mirindra Razafinarivo swept the duo of Ange Bebita Ishimwe and Marie Ceila Kezakimana in two sets (6-2, 6-3).

On the first day, the team coached by Teddy Andrianjafitrimo won their match against Namibia 3-0. The Malagasy national team has now recorded two victories in as many matches in this tournament, which is equivalent to the Tennis World Cup.

Madagascar will face Nigeria in a decisive match to determine the leader of Pool C. The winners of each pool will compete to determine the champion of Africa Group III, who will then be promoted to the Europe/Africa Group II.
