CONTEMPORARY ART – Joël Andrianomearisoa unites sport and art in Ankorondrano

With “Hevitra teboka baraingo sy tsoraka,” the Malagasy artist transforms punctuation marks into a monumental work that engages with residents at the new Casa Sport complex in Ankorondrano.

Periods, exclamation marks, and question marks leave the page to occupy the public space. In Ankorondrano, Joël Andrianomearisoa has unveiled “Hevitra teboka baraingo sy tsoraka,” a permanent monumental installation that brings contemporary art into the heart of the new Casa Sport complex, inaugurated this Sunday by the Filatex Group.

Inspired by Malagasy punctuation marks, this creation reinvents language by transforming it into matter, space, and emotion. Composed of 600 metal bars and furniture specially designed by the artist, it offers no text to read. The signs, detached from their grammatical function, become a visual vocabulary of lines, rhythms, and silences, leaving everyone free to project their own imagination. For Joël Andrianomearisoa, every visitor is free to perceive and make the work their own according to their own sensitivity. The installation is intended to be as lively as it is functional: it can accommodate daily activities, whether sitting, hanging objects, or simply serving as a meeting place.

Situated in the open air along the complex wall, the work accompanies both athletic activities and the ordinary gestures of daily life. Athletes, residents, and visitors interact with a creation that fosters a dialogue between landscape, the body, and language. Through this project, Joël Andrianomearisoa continues his poetic exploration of the foundations of Malagasy culture by giving them a contemporary and universal reach, while inviting reflection on memory, identity, and the evocative power of art.

This work is integrated into the new Casa Sport local sports complex, developed by the Filatex Group as an extension of the Eden residential project by Filatex Properties. The site includes an outdoor weightlifting area, a basketball court, two pétanque courts, a skate park, and a lighting system for evening use. Designed as a living space accessible to all, it combines sport, culture, and public space in a unified vision of urban development.
