The peak tourist season is in full swing in Mahajanga. The installation of attractions and water leisure equipment in authorized areas was completed this week.
The Mahajanga seaside and the tourist village are the city’s main entertainment hubs. They regularly host temporary leisure spaces featuring inflatable slides, water games, children’s rides, and carousels.
During this holiday period, rides, trampolines, and inflatable structures sit alongside slides and water games, offering families a vast space for relaxation and recreation. Every evening, the Filaos area, located near the Central Bank on a section of the Poincaré Boulevard by the sea, as well as the tourist village, come alive and transform into true open-air funfairs. Inflatable water courses, fairground and water games, bumper cars, trampolines, and Ferris wheels are among the attractions offered.
These attractions appeal to both children and adults. The sale of cotton candy and popcorn completes the leisure offerings. Prices vary from 1,000 to 3,000 Ariary per child, particularly for access to the inflatable slides.
“Our children enjoy these attractions and inflatable water balloons because they are age-appropriate. We cannot go to the beach due to the travel involved. The tourist village is nearby and security is ensured, as there are fewer crowds,” testified a father of young boys.
Large, secure slides are available on the inflatable structures at the three play sites. Small electric or remote-controlled cars and motorcycles, as well as miniature karts, are very popular with toddlers, especially in the evening by the seaside.
“The rental rate is 1,000 Ariary per child for electric cars, compared to 2,000 Ariary for remote-controlled ones. We do eight-minute rides on the pedestrian esplanade. We are paid by percentage,” explained a supervisor of a small car.
Small paid trains also crisscross the town of Mahajanga-Be and the tourist village day and night.
As the top national tourist destination, Mahajanga will vibrate to the rhythm of the holidays until the end of August. The turnout is already significant, and the excitement is spreading throughout the city.
