The 6th edition of Jôkôsô – The Festival of Laughter concluded yesterday at the Cité des Cultures with a gala featuring several Malagasy comedians.
Malagasy humor continues to explore new forms. For this 6th edition, Jôkôsô focused on a tighter program and more polished performances. “We try to be more and more professional with each edition,” emphasizes Raytra Belaw’yck, one of the main initiators and organizers of the show.
The closing gala brought together Raytra Belaw’yck, Hery Artist, Dadavy, Ely Nomenjanahary, Lanja Babeine Finengo, and Mamy Ralijaona, with Joely as a special guest, at the Cité des Cultures.
Lanja Babeine opened the show with humor inspired by daily life and current events. She used comparisons and irony to evoke the experiences of Malagasy people and certain societal habits. Mamy Ralijaona then drew on anecdotes from his life as a man, husband, and father, in a style primarily marked by bold humor.
Joely’s performance at the Palais des Sports also caught the attention of Hery Artist. “His show gives us a lot of hope: one-man shows are not just about artists and music,” he believes.
Through this edition, Jôkôsô continues its development with the ambition of offering more refined shows and gradually increasing the visibility of Malagasy comedians, particularly on YouTube and various communication platforms.
