Understanding the causes of recurring political crises to better envision the democratic future of Madagascar. This is the objective of a conference-debate that will bring together researchers, students, and the general public at the University of Antananarivo.
Why does Madagascar regularly relapse into political crises? This question will be at the heart of the conference-debate titled “Recurring Political Crises in Madagascar,” organized today at 2:00 PM in Amphitheater 24 of the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences at the University of Antananarivo. The event is hosted by the Master 2 class in Cultural Mediation and Management of the French and Francophone Studies department.
The meeting aims to go beyond immediate analyses of crises to examine their root causes. Discussions will focus on the mechanisms that foster the repetition of political crises, the factors behind popular mobilizations, and the conditions for a sustainable democratic refoundation.
Professor Christiane Rafidinarivo, a political science researcher at the Institute of Political Studies of Madagascar and associate at CEVIPOF, will present the results of her work dedicated to the contexts of political crises in Madagascar. Dr. Faneva Ratsimba Rajaona, a lecturer-researcher at the Faculty of Law and Political Science of the University of Antananarivo, will participate in the discussions as a discussant.
Open to students, researchers, civil society actors, and the general public, this conference aims to provide a framework for reflection on the country’s democratic challenges. The organizers hope to contribute to a better understanding of the political dynamics that shape the contemporary history of Madagascar.
