EVENT – The Haika Fair aims to place cultural professions and creative industries at the heart of the economy

Transforming creative professions and cultural industries into more than just a space for cultural expression is a key goal of the Haika 2026 Fair, scheduled for October 9-11 at the Cité des Cultures in Antaninarenina. The event aims to establish these sectors as a genuine economic force. Fashion, cinema, music, video games, publishing, visual arts, design, and crafts will be brought together to address issues of professionalization, structuring, and access to economic opportunities.

Over three days, artists, creators, cultural enterprises, institutions, economic operators, buyers, media, and the general public are expected to participate in conferences, workshops, masterclasses, and professional meetings. The event primarily aims to foster exchanges between various stakeholders and bridge the gap between creators and businesses, institutions, and support mechanisms.

Professionalization is another key issue the fair intends to address. Beyond talent promotion, Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs) face challenges related to economic activity, such as business models, financial management, marketing, formalization, taxation, and intellectual property protection.

A support program launched in July 2026 already brings together 25 cultural and creative entrepreneurs from Madagascar and the Comoros. In Madagascar, beneficiaries are supported in building their business models, financial management, and formalizing their activities. The initiative is led by the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) with funding from the French Development Agency (AFD).

“Haika must extend this approach across seven sectors, from fashion and textiles to crafts, cinema, music, video games, publishing, and visual arts and design,” explains Hery-Ntsoa Nazareh, project manager at Hay Ahy Yay and member of the organizing committee.

The economic dimension will also be reflected in the search for market outlets and collaborations. Haika plans to provide a meeting space for creators, businesses, and institutions to foster new partnerships. Additionally, the IOC will present a guide dedicated to CCIs in Madagascar, aimed at entrepreneurs looking to access international markets.
