Access to legal identity remains a challenge for a portion of the population. Approximately 20% of citizens are still not registered in the civil registry. This situation was highlighted yesterday during the launch of the National Identity Day at the Carlton Hotel in Anosy.
Held under the theme “Ny fahiziako, aloka tsy mahasaraka ahy” (My identity, a shadow that never leaves me), the celebration was marked by a high-level meeting dedicated to the management of the civil registry system. Discussions focused on ways to improve registration and facilitate access to documents that prove identity.
With the support of its partners, the State plans to continue efforts to strengthen the civil registry system. Among the priorities is the development of biometric registration at the municipal level. Actions are also expected to be carried out within municipal services responsible for issuing civil registry documents, in order to simplify procedures and bring these services closer to the population.
Registration in the civil registry thus remains a major issue in accessing legal identity. For individuals lacking civil registry documents, certain administrative procedures can become more complex. Reducing this 20% figure therefore represents a significant challenge to ensure that everyone has access to a legally recognized identity.
