Denied the crown. Malagasy stars playing for the Décines club, Yves Sedrick Rakotoarisoa and Jean François Daniel Rakotondrainibe, alias “Zigle,” reinforced by Senegalese N’Diaye Fara and Beninese Marcel Gbetable, were the first to be eliminated yesterday at the Final Four of the 27th edition of the Pétanque Masters in L’Île-Rousse, Corsica.
The “Étoiles du Sud” (Stars of the South) team, consisting of Zigle as the pointer, Yves in the middle, and Fara as the shooter, suffered a one-sided 1-13 defeat against the Dream Team of Philippe Suchaud, Philippe Quintais, and Henri Lacroix during the first match. The “Philippes” were flawless in both shooting and pointing.
The African selection then suffered a second defeat against the team of Dylan Rocher, Diego Rizzi, Stéphane Robineau, and Jean-Michel Puccinelli, losing 3-13 in the second match. The African team thus packed their bags early after the double defeat and could not even compete in the playoffs. The dream of clinching the title, following the Malagasy defeat in the final of the previous edition, was shattered right from the start of yesterday’s final stage.
