BASKETBALL – FIBA NATIONAL YOUTH CAMP – Instructor Naoufal Uariachi takes charge of the youth

The detection and training of young talents are at the heart of the FIBA National Youth Camp, held from November 2 to 7 at the Ankoay Ankorondrano gymnasium.

Under the leadership of Moroccan Naoufal Uariachi, a FIBA-certified instructor, the camp serves as a space for exchange and knowledge transfer for coaches. They are encouraged to better mentor young basketball players and support their athletic development.

Initiated by FIBA Africa, with the support of the Malagasy Basketball Federation (FMBB), this event brings together 42 players from the U14 and U16 categories, as well as 40 coaches from various leagues across Madagascar. The goal is to strengthen the technical skills of young players while equipping their mentors to ensure their progress.

The program includes learning basketball fundamentals, refining individual skills, and improving game reading. Practical sessions focus on mastering technical movements, coordination, decision-making, and collective strategies.

“I am back in Madagascar, a land of hospitality, and I am very happy about it. The camp has a dual objective: to detect new talents and to define ways to develop them sustainably,” says Naoufal Uariachi. The instructor emphasizes that the goal is also to help coaches organize training camps to ensure regular follow-up for the identified young players.

When asked about the skills of Malagasy coaches, Naoufal Uariachi remains optimistic. He believes they possess the necessary skills and stand out for their enthusiasm. He also holds a positive view of the evolution of Malagasy basketball on the African continent, illustrated by the regular participation of national teams in various continental competitions.
