FOOTBALL – U23 AFCON – Barea strengthen their defensive system

A third successful test. The U23 pre-selection team, preparing for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the 2028 Olympic Games, played their third test match yesterday at the Barea annex field in Mahamasina. The protégés of head coach Boualem Mankour have secured their third consecutive victory. The U23 pre-selection team previously won 7-1 against the Fianarantsoa selection and defeated the regional division 1 club Babangy FC. The match was played in four thirty-minute segments.

“The boys have committed themselves and have been attentive to the game system we are implementing. There is a clear improvement compared to the first week,” acknowledged assistant coach Johan Paul, former captain of the Barea. “We have worked on the defensive side, on the repositioning of the block and defensive attitudes. This week, we will work on the offensive side,” the technician confided.

The pre-selection team had already defeated the Moramanga selection (4-1) and the PFL club Uscafoot (5-0). The Barea will face the South African Bafana-Bafana in the second qualifying round for the U23 AFCON. The first leg will take place in Mauritius on November 13, and the return leg in South Africa on November 17. The Barea plan to play at least two additional test matches before departing. They will play their fourth match against the PFL club Ajesaia on Saturday in Mahamasina.
