SOANIERANA IVONGO – Two teachers die in motorcycle collision

Two teachers, a father and his son, lost their lives in a collision between two motorcycles that occurred the day before yesterday afternoon on the Secondary National Road 5 (RNS5), about 25 kilometers from Soanierana Ivongo. The victims were 35 and 36 years old. The father of the older man, who was traveling with him, was also injured.

The accident happened as the two men were returning to Miandravato, in the Mananara Avaratra district, after attending a Teachers’ Day celebration in Fenoarivo Atsinanana. They were riding behind another motorcycle driven by a teacher returning to his home in Antanifotsy, in the Soanierana Ivongo district.

The first motorcycle had run out of fuel, and its driver was pushing it. The motorcycle carrying the two men arrived from behind and struck it. The man pushing his motorcycle died on the spot. The driver and his father were also seriously injured in the collision. The driver later died at the hospital. His father, who suffered serious leg and head injuries, was evacuated to Toamasina for further treatment. Both motorcycles were heavily damaged.

The Soanierana Ivongo gendarmerie, who arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation, confirmed that the man pushing the motorcycle struck from behind was a philosophy teacher at the Antanifotsy high school in Soanierana Ivongo, as well as at a private institution.
