The construction site for the Amoronakona water treatment plant is currently still in the embankment phase. “These works are nearly complete. They will be followed by the pouring of concrete piles to consolidate the foundations of future structures, as the soil is particularly unstable,” a source within the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene stated yesterday. Launched in December 2025, these works are still within the initial schedule. The main challenge is to complete the embankment work before the first rains arrive.
This project is part of the priority phase of the “Jirama Water III” program, funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Union. Once operational, the plant will pump raw water directly from the Ikopa River before ensuring its complete treatment, reaching a production capacity of 2,500 m³ of drinking water per hour.
The project also includes the construction of a water reservoir with a capacity of 1,500 m³ on the heights of Ambohibe, and the installation of a pipeline network of over 23 kilometers to ensure distribution and strengthen the entire network. These pipes will serve a wide perimeter, extending from Analamahitsy in the north to Iavoloha in the south. The first technical tests and the official commissioning of the network are planned for September 2027.
