The journey has come to an end. The Yfomac women’s football academy suffered a second defeat following their opening draw at the Norway Cup U17 in Oslo. After a tough battle, the team from the ‘Great Island’ (Madagascar) narrowly lost 1-2 to the Norwegian side Bergen Nord yesterday, during the third and final day of the group stage.
Yfomac had previously been defeated 0-4 by Ranheim IL on the second day, following their 1-1 draw against Nittedal in the opener. Only the top two teams in the group advance to the round of 32. With one draw and two losses, both Nittedal and Yfomac, finishing third and fourth respectively, were eliminated at the end of the group phase. Ranheim IL, which maintained a perfect record with three wins in as many matches, and the runner-up, Bergen Nord, with two wins and one loss, secured their tickets to the final phase.
Fifty-seven teams are competing in this Norway Cup Girls U17 tournament, which concludes this Friday. The girls will still have the opportunity to play in classification matches.
