REGIONAL BUDGET CONFERENCE – The 2027 budget prioritizes access to drinking water and electricity

The regional budget conference dedicated to the preparation of the 2027 Finance Act was held on Tuesday in Mahajanga. The highlighted priorities include access to drinking water and electricity, as well as agriculture and infrastructure.

Following several other regions, Mahajanga hosted a regional budget conference last Tuesday as part of the preparation for the 2027 Finance Act. Organized at the Hôtel des Finances in Mahajanga Be, the meeting brought together regional authorities, decentralized technical services, local government units, as well as representatives from civil society and the private sector.

The Director General of Economy and Finance, Bototsara Mbolatiana James, emphasized the importance of these regional consultations in defining budgetary priorities. For his part, the head of the Boeny region, Nasolo Adakalo, indicated that an effort had been made to involve the private sector more closely in the discussions.

“The consideration of each citizen’s fundamental needs is reflected in this project. The Boeny region, in particular, has a roadmap in line with the government’s reform policy. The priorities focus on access to drinking water and electricity, as well as the development of agriculture and infrastructure. The region also has a Regional Development Plan (PRD), which aims to foster its development,” stated Nasolo Adakalo.

The meeting is intended to allow various stakeholders to report the region’s needs and prioritize expenditures to be included in the next state budget.

“It is an opportunity to take stock and assess needs in the regions. Budgetary transparency is essential. We must prioritize expenditures that create value in terms of return on investment, in order to directly support local development and improve the living conditions of the population,” explained the Director General.
