The justice system has put an end to a vast fraud case based on a pyramid scheme in Mahajanga. The case dates back to the arrest of 245 people earlier this month, all involved with the company Infinity Millennials, also known as QNET. Eleven of them were placed in pre-trial detention following their appearance before the public prosecutor last Friday in Mahajanga. Meanwhile, an Ivorian national and a Comorian national are the subjects of arrest warrants issued by the Anti-Corruption Pole (PAC), as they managed to flee.
André Andrimpiderana, the Public Prosecutor at the Mahajanga Court of First Instance, explained the reasons for these arrests and the alleged mechanics of the scam. He stated that the eleven individuals in custody were the primary organizers who knowingly led victims into the scheme. The operation involved charging a fee of 3,650,000 ariary per person under the guise of job or study opportunities abroad. Candidates were then forced to sell QNET products imported from Malaysia that never arrived, serving only as a facade for the pyramid structure.
The prosecutor clarified that the scheme relied on recruitment rather than actual product sales, where early members were paid using the fees collected from new entrants. On August 1st, thousands of Infinity Millennials (QNET) members protested at the Village Touristique square to contest the initial arrests, claiming they were unjustified. Despite the protests, judicial proceedings continue, and authorities have issued a stern warning to citizens against participating in such fraudulent activities.
