HEALTH SECURITY – All passengers subject to checks at Ivato

Ivato International Airport is implementing strict health security measures to mitigate the risk of Ebola virus introduction. These measures are overseen by the Ministry of Public Health.

All travelers arriving in Madagascar are now subject to health screenings and traceability protocols without exception. Isolation procedures are in place, with medical teams mobilized 24/7 and an ambulance stationed on-site for emergencies. A source from the Ministry of Public Health emphasized that compliance is mandatory for everyone, regardless of nationality or status, due to the high fatality rate of the disease.

Upon arrival, passengers must pass through thermal cameras to detect potential fever. Those showing symptoms are isolated for medical consultation and, if necessary, transported to a specialized treatment center located away from public hospitals to prevent transmission. For travelers arriving from the Democratic Republic of Congo, entry is restricted to specific categories of people, all of whom must undergo a mandatory 21-day quarantine. Four isolation sites, including three hotels and a facility in Vontovorona, have been established.

To date, 32 people have been placed in preventive isolation, with 22 already cleared. The Ministry confirms that there are currently no suspected or confirmed cases of Ebola in Madagascar. Additionally, all passengers, including VIPs, must complete a health form detailing their identity and contact information to facilitate contact tracing. While no specific checks are required for departing flights, travel to affected areas like the DRC is temporarily suspended.
