A childhood dream turned into a stage performance. To celebrate its 20th edition, Smooth Night features Yrinaf at the heart of an evening dedicated to the world of Mariah Carey, under the theme ‘Mariah Carey, the voice of my childhood’. On October 2nd, starting at 8:15 PM, the Ibis Ankorondrano hotel will host this premium outdoor event by the pool, with approximately 400 spectators expected.
For Yrinaf, this edition represents a special milestone. Accustomed to participating in Smooth Night as a backup singer since 2017, she will be the headliner this time, carrying the tribute to one of the great voices that shaped her childhood alone. ‘It’s the first time I’m truly a headliner. It’s exciting, but there is also pressure,’ she confides. A pressure reinforced by the vocal demands of Mariah Carey’s repertoire, as well as the artist’s personal connection: ‘It’s a childhood dream. She is one of the artists who rocked my childhood, influenced my way of singing and my musical tastes.’
The singer does not hide the scale of the challenge. Soul and Jazz are part of her world, but Mariah Carey’s repertoire pushes her further out of her comfort zone. ‘My comfort zone is not necessarily where hers is, but you have to work. Fortunately, we are already in the preparations and we are trying to give the best of what we can offer.’
The goal is to offer a show where vocal performance is accompanied by genuine artistic, scenographic, and technical work. The playlist will seek to touch several generations, focusing on emotion and nostalgia, as well as performance. Yrinaf will be at the forefront for this 20th edition, accompanied by Njaka, Tom, Josia, and Joosia, with special guests Ken, Nanie, Nate Tex, and Meva Gospel. Two hours of performance are planned to revive the world of Mariah Carey through nostalgia, elegance, and vocal prowess.
A Malagasy singer and solo pianist, Yrinaf primarily works in Jazz, Soul, and variety. Coming from a family of musicians, she took her first steps in singing within her family and church. In 2012, she became known to the general public by participating in the RTA show ‘The One’, where she took third place. Two years later, she joined the CGM Jazz Club, where she still performs in cabarets and concerts today.
