3×3 Basketball: Madagascar’s Ankoay Women Secure Victory

The Malagasy national teams experienced mixed results during the second day of the FIBA 3×3 Nations League U23 in Gaborone, Botswana. The women’s team dominated Algeria (19-8), while the men’s team narrowly lost (19-20).

The Ankoay women perfectly controlled their match against the Algerians. Quickly taking the lead (6-2 then 10-5), the Ankoay girls maintained their advantage thanks to solid defense and excellent offensive efficiency. Taratra, who scored a long-range shot at the start, propelled her team toward a decisive victory. Madagascar ultimately won 19-8.

For the men, the scenario was quite different. Trailing 6-11 and then 12-18, the Ankoay struggled against the Algerian play for much of the game, particularly due to defensive difficulties. However, the Malagasy team staged a spectacular comeback, leveling the score at 19-19 in the final minute. They even had a match point with 23 seconds remaining but failed to convert it. Algeria ultimately scored the winning basket at the buzzer to win 20-19, leaving the Ankoay with deep regrets.
