In Ambanja, beauty takes center stage for the third edition of the international Beauty Festival. From August 26 to 29, the cocoa city will host this new edition, organized by the association ‘Diaconie de la beauté’ (Diaconia of Beauty). This event continues the momentum of previous editions, with a clear ambition this year to expand its international reach.
The Diaconia of Beauty continues to establish itself across Madagascar. While the northern capital and the ‘Perfume Island’ (Nosy Be) hosted the previous two editions, this third edition is now set in Ambanja, within the Diana region. Other cities like Sambava, Morondava, and Antananarivo have also hosted their own respective editions, giving various Malagasy cities the opportunity to participate in this movement.
Blending spirituality, arts, and cultural heritage, the event aims to use beauty as a language for evangelization and a lever for social cohesion. The presence of Daniel and Anne Facérias, founders of the movement, is expected to give this edition a special resonance.
The program is divided into two parts. The first two days will be dedicated to an international spiritual retreat led by Archbishop Emeritus of Toulouse, Mgr Robert Le Gall, alongside Mgr Donatien Francis Randriamalala, Bishop of Ambanja and patron of the Diaconia movement in Madagascar. The second part, on August 28 and 29, will feature cultural festivities, including performances by artists from various disciplines.
Beyond the religious dimension, Ambanja intends to use the event to showcase its cultural wealth and local expertise. Traditional costumes, dances, music, and crafts will be central to the program, with an artistic carnival expected to be a highlight. Furthermore, the inauguration of the ‘House of Artists’ in Ambanja aims to provide a space for artists to develop their talents and foster creation inspired by faith, serving as a lasting legacy of this edition.
