Three additional suspects have been detained in connection with kidnapping and murder cases. Public Prosecutor Narindra Navalona Rakotoniaina confirmed in a video released Saturday by the Ministry of Justice that three alleged members of a ‘Masonic lodge’ have been placed in pre-trial detention. They are accused of ‘acts of witchcraft, desecration of graves, kidnapping, and murder,’ she stated. Two men were sent to the Tsiafahy high-security prison, while one woman was placed in the Antanimora central prison.
According to the magistrate, the suspicions are based on evidence discovered during a search conducted by investigators in the presence of the prosecutor’s office at a location described as a ‘meeting place for a secret society.’ ‘A coffin containing human bones, other coffins, swords, and several documents were discovered there,’ she reported. She added that among the seized items was a book describing a ‘funeral ritual,’ and also noted the presence of a room equipped with an altar where rituals were performed.
For the prosecutor’s office, these findings provide leads that fuel the ongoing investigation. The prosecutor indicated that the content of the documents has led investigators to consider the hypothesis of ritual sacrifices and a possible link between the activities of the suspected secret society and cases of kidnapping. ‘But the investigations are still ongoing,’ she continued, implying that this is a hypothesis that remains to be confirmed or refuted.
When questioned about the security situation in Madagascar by members of the Malagasy diaspora in Egypt, the president of Refondation, Michaël Randrianirina, had previously mentioned suspicions regarding these ‘secret societies’ and indicated that the authorities would take measures in this regard.
