Since the start of the epidemic in mid-December 2025, 21 deaths have been recorded. The number of people affected by Mpox has continued to rise in recent days. Reports from the National Public Health Emergency Operations Center (Cousp) indicate three deaths recorded this week. Meanwhile, more than 3,000 confirmed cases and over 2,000 recoveries have been documented.
The first death of the week involved a 29-year-old woman in the Androy region, recorded on July 21. Initially classified as a suspected case, her death occurred days before laboratory tests confirmed Mpox as the cause. The second death was reported on July 22 in Vavatenina, where a 48-year-old woman succumbed to the disease. The final death occurred on July 24, with no further details provided. The majority of deaths involve vulnerable or immunocompromised individuals.
According to the latest report from July 24, 4,715 suspected cases of Mpox have been notified since the start of the epidemic, with 3,086 laboratory-confirmed cases. In total, 2,153 patients have been declared cured, while 21 deaths have been recorded. To date, 40 districts remain active out of the 70 affected by the epidemic. The districts of Toamasina I, Taolagnaro, Antsiranana I, Antananarivo-ville, and Toliara II are among the most affected in recent weeks.
The National Cousp, through its incident manager, Professor Mamy Randria, reminds the public that Mpox continues to spread in Madagascar. This disease can lead to serious complications if not treated promptly. Given the situation, vaccination remains the primary means of prevention. The public is encouraged to get vaccinated, as the vaccine is free and accessible to all, in order to limit the spread of the virus and reduce the risk of severe forms of the disease.
