Insecurity: Authorities impose a curfew in Ambositra following Thursday’s protests and looting

Faced with the security tensions shaking Ambositra, the prefecture has imposed a curfew starting this Friday. This measure comes the day after the violence that occurred on Thursday, during which residents set fire to the homes and businesses of individuals suspected of being involved in the murder of little Larissa. The curfew will remain in effect until public order is restored.

Residents are now only allowed to move between 4:00 AM and 9:00 PM. Outside of these hours, all movement is prohibited, except for duly justified legal reasons. According to the Prefect of Ambositra, Richard Rakotomalala, this decision aims to restore security and preserve public order. Individuals authorized to travel during the restricted hours must carry their national identity cards.

The authorities emphasize, however, that this measure is temporary. “It will remain in force until calm returns. As soon as an improvement in the security situation is observed, night-time movement will resume normally,” indicated the Prefect of Ambositra, reached by telephone.
